Donations

Thank you 14-N for your gracious wish list donations!

Wish List Donations 8-28-20
District 14-N’s Wish List Tote Program is a success!

We are extremely grateful for all of the efforts that the Lions Clubs of Pennsylvania put into donating items from our wish list.  Without these efforts, our endeavors to provide campers with special needs would be an even greater challenge.  Each and every donation, large or small, is a gift we greatly appreciate!

This year, District 14-N came up with a novel idea for encouraging wish list donations.  The District purchased large totes for each of its clubs and attached our wish list to the lids.  They gave each Lions Club a tote to place at their location as a collection point for Lions members to deposit their collected wish list items.  Once full, the items from the totes were collected and brought to Beacon Lodge Camp.  PDG Kim Stevenson brought a cargo trailer full of wish list donations!  The image above is the result of their Wish List Totes Program.

We would also like to thank the Lions Clubs that participated.  Those clubs that had totes ready were Rochester Beaver Lions Club, Butler Lions Club, Volant Lions Club, New Brighton Lions Club, Evans City Lions Club, Slippery Rock Lions Club, Zelienople Lions Club, Chippawa Lions Club, Ford City Lions Club, and Wampum Lions Club.

A perfect Day for our 4th Annual Golf Outing

As golfers began arriving Friday, August 28, the dreary, rainy weather was forefront on everyone’s minds.  It had been raining all day, but that didn’t stop our dedicated supporters.  Some came early to get their early bird round of golf in before the big day, some came early for the camaraderie, but everyone came to show support for Beacon Lodge Camp.

As the day of our golf outing arrived, so did the rain clouds.  Someone was looking out for us though; the clouds drifted around the American Legion Golf Course in Mount Union, but never over it.  You could see them all day, but it turned out to be a perfect day for our 4th Annual Pa Lions Beacon Lodge Golf Outing… sunny and warm.

Following PA State Health Department mandates, the meal scheduled at the end of the outing was cancelled and instead food was served throughout the day as golfers took breaks.  They enjoyed Cheesesteaks, Chicken Cheesesteaks, and Hot Sausages along with potato salad, potato chips, and drinks.
Thanks to all of our sponsors and players, we achieved our goal!
Each year, a goal is set for the amount of funds that we try to raise. This year we exceeded our set goal of $20,000.
We are proud to announce that at the end of the day, thanks to all of our supporters, a total of $24,067 was raised for Pa Lions Beacon Lodge Camp! It is support such as this that help keep Pa Lions Beacon Lodge camp up and running.

Beacon Lodge’s Annual Great Duck Race

Beacon Lodge Ducks waiting for the start of the race.
2000 Beacon Lodge Ducks Awaiting The Start Of The Race!

We are excited to announce that this year’s Annual Great Duck Race will be live streamed! We have been diligently working to provide everyone a safe way to participate. For the health and safety of our dedicated staff, Board Members, Lions Clubs members, and guests, the decision was made to postpone our Annual Pennsylvania Lions Appreciation Day (PLAD) until next year. However, we are able to safely conduct our Annual Great Duck Race.
Here, at BeaconLodge.org on our Homepage, you will be able to watch in real time as the ducks swim down the stream to the finish line.
The live stream will also be available on our YouTube channel. Please don’t forget to like and subscribe to our channel!

Waste Water Treatment Plant Rehab Project-2019

Pa Lions Beacon Lodge Camp Waste Water Treatment Plant Before Project Start

Our waste water treatment plant rehabilitation project began during the month of December. Some of the metal was very corroded and needed to be replaced.

This is how our plant looked before preparations began.
In order for DC Goodman to be able to begin their part of the project, we had to prepare the old metal.

We spent a few days grinding the old coating off the metal to facilitate the welding of the new stainless steel.

There was corrosion under the old coating.
We found spots where it was rusted clear through.
This created an unstable surface for our walkways over the tank.

On December 11, 2019, the DC Goodman crew arrived.  They began the process of making room for our new stainless steel braces.  Here they removed the old angles that supported the walkway. Welding was completed on December 16, 2019.

Below is the completed project with the new stainless steel bracing. Our waste water treatment plant now has a stable platform from which we can work.
Although there is some clean up and finishing touches to be done, we are happy to have this project in the books.
